Data Management System#
A system for collecting, organizing and accessing data.
Sample systems used by EU projects:
ckan#
Used by GHub and by extension BlueCloud
Source: ckan/ckan License: AGPL3
iRODS#
Used by B2Safe
Also dpm, dcache
Data Infrastructure#
A digital infrastructure for promoting data sharing and consumption, often supporting data services.
Some EU Data Infrastructures:
EUDAT https://www.eudat.eu
D4 Science https://www.d4science.org
Blue Cloud Data Infrastructure https://www.blue-cloud.org/data-infrastructures
Catalogue Services#
A Service Catalogue (or simply Catalogue) is a collection of business and IT services provided by an organisation.
A Catalogue Service allows interaction with collections of Catalogues.
Sample EU Catalogues:
Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)#
PIDs (or PIs) are long-lasting identifiers for digital objects usually accessible over the internet.
In the context of EU E-Research (use of IT to support research) generic PIDs are commonly provided by the ePIC consortium through their handle.net API.
The Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) is a commonly used PID for individual researcher’s online profiles.
Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are often managed by DataCite in a scientific setting.
